Obituary of Joseph E. Valvo

Obituary Joseph E. Valvo, 85, of Silver Creek, NY died Saturday April 14, 2018 at his home with his loving family at his side. Joe was born on January 8, 1933 in Silver Creek, NY the son of the late Emil and Bertha (Guarino) Valvo. He was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Silver Creek High School in 1950. Joe served in the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard of New York during the Korean Conflict in the 174th Infantry, tank division. He was honorably discharged on Feb.14, 1955.He married Elizabeth Anne Miller on June 4, 1955 and together they raised two children, Stephen and Susan Valvo. Joe worked with his father in the family business, Valvo’s Candies for his entire life. They started in downtown Silver Creek and eventually would relocate to their current location on Route 5 & 20.Everybody in the family helped in all facets of the business. In 2019, Valvo’s Candies will celebrate their 100th Anniversary of being in business. Joe’s business took up most of his time, when he could find some free time he loved to cook, sing and dance with Elizabeth. They traveled the world together Europe, Africa and Scandinavia to name some of the places they visited. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 63 years Elizabeth (Miller) Valvo, a son Stephen and a daughter Susan Valvo both of Silver Creek, six grandchildren, Jessie Valvo, Joshua (Patty Polvino) Valvo,Mary Valvo,Ashley (Shawn)Reese, Emily and Dominique Valvo, seven great grandchildren, Isabella, Christopher, Makayla, Madison, Delaynie, Seleyne, and Dominic. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Louis Valvo. Friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel 160 Central Ave. Silver Creek on Tuesday April 17, 2018 from 5-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church 165 Central Ave. Silver Creek at 10AM. Interment will be in Mt Carmel Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined, the family suggests memorial contributions in Joe’s honor to Our Lady of Victory Homes of Charity (Fr. Baker) or Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church.
