Obituary of Edward F. Prowse

Obituary Edward F. Prowse, 90, of Silver Creek, NY passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk, NY. He was born on September 4, 1930 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Johnson) Prowse. Ed graduated from Kensington High School in Buffalo, NY in 1949 and subsequently served four years in the USAF during The Korean War as a Sr. Aircraft Radio Repairman. He married Carol A. DeJohn on August 3, 1963 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC Church in Silver Creek. Ed is survived by his wife of 57 years Carol DeJohn; three sons, Edward (Jennifer) Prowse of Dunkirk, NY, James (Katherine) Prowse of Smyrna, GA and Daniel (Kim Meinert) Prowse of Wauwatosa, WI; five grandchildren, Ariel, Gabriella, Nathaniel, Leo and Clara Prowse; two great grandchildren, Aaliyah and Leilani Buchanan-Ruiz. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Gerard and James Prowse. After working many years as an electronics technician, Ed came to Silver Creek, working at Guarcello’s Inc. and eventually as manager for DeJohn’s True Value Hardware store. He retired in 1995 after more than 20 years. Ed was an active member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC Church, where he faithfully served as an early Eucharistic Minister and also a 4 th Degree Knights of Columbus. He loved to golf and was a member of the Tri-County Country Club where he enjoyed playing with his family and friends. In addition to several men’s leagues, he and Carol teamed up in the Mixed Couples league for many years. Annual Myrtle Beach golf trips with his buddies were always extensively planned and looked forward to. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Faith Community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, 165 Central Ave, Silver Creek on Monday, January 18, 2021 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to OLMC.
