Obituary of Margaret R. Langer

Obituary Margaret R. “Peg” Langer, 88, of Silver Creek, NY died Sunday afternoon January 21, 2018 at the TLC Health Network in Irving, NY. Peg was born on October 22, 1929 in Silver Creek, NY the daughter of the late John and Effie(Sturgis)Smith. On January 1, 1949, she married Elmer Langer at the First Presbyterian Church in Silver Creek, NY and he preceded her in death on March 1, 2005 after sharing 55 years of marriage. Surviving are three sons, Mark Langer of Silver Creek, Jeff (Nicole) Langer of Mechanicsville, MD and Kurt Langer of Mt Pleasant, SC. , a daughter, Susan Reid of Bend, OR; three grandchildren, Connor, Christopher, and Sarah Langer; three nieces, Nikki(Reid) Bacon, Jane Laulainen, and Toni Dean, and her German Shorthaired Pointer “Rooney”. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Sturgis Culver and a sister, Gwen Reid. Peg was a 1947 graduate of Silver Creek High School. She attended Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, earned her bachelor of science degree and masters degree in education from SUNY Fredonia. After graduating she went straight to work at Silver Creek Central Schools, where she taught 5th grade. Peg received a lot of satisfaction from helping children grow socially and academically, inspiring them to further their education. She also was very involved in the PTA. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Silver Creek, the Teachers Association of NY, the Fort Nightly Book Club, and the Lakeshore Bird Club. Elmer and Peg volunteered for many years at the Silver Creek Food Pantry and the Gowanda Correctional Facility, helping families deal with life’s obstacles. Peg traveled all over the world and was passionate about flying. She enjoyed walking, playing bridge, and reading, especially biographies and mysteries. She loved all animals, birds, horses and dogs to name a few. No calling hours will be observed, a memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
