Obituary of Mary M. Meegan

Mary M. Meegan, 92, of Silver Creek, NY, died Monday morning, January 9, 2017 at TLC Lake Shore Hospital in Irving, NY, after a short illness. She was born in Buffalo, NY on March 4, 1924, the daughter of the late Dennis and Cecilia (Cary) Hayes. Mary was a graduate of Hutch Tech High School, Class of 1942, she married Edward C. Meegan on July 24, 1948 and together they raised four children. Her life revolved around her family and her church, Our Lady of Mt Carmel in Silver Creek. In her younger years she volunteered at OLMC School and was a member of the Mother’s Club, also helped out with bingo .In her later years she was very active with the OLMC Senior Citizens Club and the Sacred Heart Senior Citizens Club in Orchard Park, NY .Mary and Ed were adult chaperones for the Catholic Youth Organization and she was a Troop Leader for the Girl Scouts, when her children were growing up. Mary enjoyed crocheting and knitting, she made many lap blankets for the members of St. Columban’s On The Lake. She was a voracious reader, worked daily crossword puzzles to keep her mind sharp, loved to cook and bake. Mary M. Meegan, 92, of Silver Creek, NY, died Monday morning, January 9, 2017 at TLC Lake Shore Hospital in Irving, NY, after a short illness. She was born in Buffalo, NY on March 4, 1924, the daughter of the late Dennis and Cecilia (Cary) Hayes. Mary was a graduate of Hutch Tech High School, Class of 1942, she married Edward C. Meegan on July 24, 1948 and together they raised four children. Her life revolved around her family and her church, Our Lady of Mt Carmel in Silver Creek. In her younger years she volunteered at OLMC School and was a member of the Mother’s Club, also helped out with bingo .In her later years she was very active with the OLMC Senior Citizens Club and the Sacred Heart Senior Citizens Club in Orchard Park, NY .Mary and Ed were adult chaperones for the Catholic Youth Organization and she was a Troop Leader for the Girl Scouts, when her children were growing up. Mary enjoyed crocheting and knitting, she made many lap blankets for the members of St. Columban’s On The Lake. She was a voracious reader, worked daily crossword puzzles to keep her mind sharp, loved to cook and bake. Survivors include two sons, David (Rosalind) Meegan of Dunkirk ,NY, Timothy (Cynthia) Meegan of Westfield, NY, two daughters ,Maureen( Leo) Morabito of Silver Creek, and Sharon (Larry) Westin of Brocton, NY, three sisters, Patricia Muraco of Eggertsville ,NY ,Doris ( Stephen) Zatlukal of West Seneca ,NY, and Carolyn (James) Hessinger of Hatsboro, Pa., two brothers, Donald Hayes of East Aurora ,NY and Vincent Hayes of Naples ,Fla., nine grandchildren ,Michael (Kristine)Morabito ,Kevin (Stacey)Morabito, David Ehmke ,Jason ( Sarah) Ehmke, Daniel ( Kathleen)Westin, Patrick Westin ,Shawn ( Haley) Meegan, Kaitlyn Meegan and Lindsey (Roy) Marvin, five great grandchildren, Collin and Bo Morabito ,Fiona Keller, Ella and Claire Ehmke.
