Clara H. Griffin, 92, of Silver Creek, NY passed away Friday afternoon December 9, 2016 at the TLC Lakeshore Hospital in Irving, NY surrounded by her loving family. Clara was born on April 25, 1924 in Fredonia, NY the daughter of the late Ralph and Leah (Stone) Hubbard. A lifelong area resident she grew up in a lovely old home on Route 20 with kind and loving parents, grandparents, sister and a brother .She was a graduate of Fredonia High School Class of 1941.During high school she played the violin, the piano and was in the orchestra .Clara attended Dunkirk Business School graduating in August 1942.She worked for Citizen’s Bank from August ’42 until February ’46. On March 23, 1946 Clara married “her love” at the Fredonia Presbyterian Church. Her life revolved around her family, they enjoyed countless wonderful picnics, birthday celebrations and trips over the years. There are many activities and hobbies she enjoyed. Refinishing furniture, caning, baking and cooking , listening to music classical, country and hymns to name a few. Clara got a lot of satisfaction serving others, church duties, food pantry , grape festival lunches ,Farm Bureau Women’s Group,4-H,P.T.A. and the church clothing center. Boating was fun when her 3 kids water-skied. In her younger years she did some downhill skiing also cross- country skiing. Ice skating was one of her favorites. Sewing was her favorite hobby for relaxing. She liked to make kids quilts, pillows, pot holders, and knit scarves. Clara’s membership included the First United Presbyterian Church, where she was involved with Deborah Circle, very active with the Silver Creek Senior Center, the Eastern Star, and a former member of the Sheridan Senior Center. Surviving are two daughters, Donna ( Lloyd) Nagel of Angola, NY, and Janet (Robert) Mays of Silver Creek, a son David (Wayne Lee)Griffin of Nunda, NY, four grandchildren, Jennifer League, Emily (Justin Miller) Azzarella, Bradley (Amanda) Mays and Ronald ( Mary Ann) Straub, nine great grandchildren ,Lily, Daisy, and Dean League, Rocco and Meadow Azzarella, Conrad Miller, Nathaniel and Leah Mays, and Olivia Straub, also a brother John ( Virginia) Hubbard of Cumming, Ga. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 62 years James Griffin, and a sister Elinor Armour. Griffin, 92, of Silver Creek, NY passed away Friday afternoon December 9, 2016 at the TLC Lakeshore Hospital in Irving, NY surrounded by her loving family. Clara was born on April 25, 1924 in Fredonia, NY the daughter of the late Ralph and Leah (Stone) Hubbard. A lifelong area resident she grew up in a lovely old home on Route 20 with kind and loving parents, grandparents, sister and a brother .She was a graduate of Fredonia High School Class of 1941.During high school she played the violin, the piano and was in the orchestra .Clara attended Dunkirk Business School graduating in August 1942.She worked for Citizen’s Bank from August ’42 until February ’46. On March 23, 1946 Clara married “her love” at the Fredonia Presbyterian Church. Her life revolved around her family, they enjoyed countless wonderful picnics, birthday celebrations and trips over the years. There are many activities and hobbies she enjoyed. Refinishing furniture, caning, baking and cooking , listening to music classical, country and hymns to name a few. Clara got a lot of satisfaction serving others, church duties, food pantry , grape festival lunches ,Farm Bureau Women’s Group,4-H,P.T.A. and the church clothing center. Boating was fun when her 3 kids water-skied. In her younger years she did some downhill skiing also cross- country skiing. Ice skating was one of her favorites. Sewing was her favorite hobby for relaxing. She liked to make kids quilts, pillows, pot holders, and knit scarves. Clara’s membership included the First United Presbyterian Church, where she was involved with Deborah Circle, very active with the Silver Creek Senior Center, the Eastern Star, and a former member of the Sheridan Senior Center. Surviving are two daughters, Donna ( Lloyd) Nagel of Angola, NY, and Janet (Robert) Mays of Silver Creek, a son David (Wayne Lee)Griffin of Nunda, NY, four grandchildren, Jennifer League, Emily (Justin Miller) Azzarella, Bradley (Amanda) Mays and Ronald ( Mary Ann) Straub, nine great grandchildren ,Lily, Daisy, and Dean League, Rocco and Meadow Azzarella, Conrad Miller, Nathaniel and Leah Mays, and Olivia Straub, also a brother John ( Virginia) Hubbard of Cumming, Ga. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 62 years James Griffin, and a sister Elinor Armour.
