Retha L. Munch February 16, 1936 – October 22, 2016 Retha L. Munch, 80, of Irving, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday morning, October 22nd, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Retha was born on February 16th, 1936 in Norwich, NY, the daughter of the late Darwin and Marion (Sayles) Bates. She grew up in a family of seven sisters. She was a graduate of Norwich High School Class of 1954. She married the love of her life, Donald J. Munch, on May 4, 1957 at Norwich Methodist Church in Norwich, NY. Retha was a homemaker and loving mother to 4 sons. She worked for many years as an administrative secretary. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Silver Creek, NY since 1968, and she served as secretary in the church office for several years. Her incredible spirit, energy and will to live carried her through many serious health issues in recent years. Retha spent many enjoyable winters with her family and friends at her winter home in LaBelle, Florida (near Fort Myers). She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Don Munch, and sons John, Timothy, Thomas, and Don Munch Jr., three sisters, Cheryl Franklin, Brenda (Brad) Wood, and Barbara (Ron) Ross, along with brother-in-law William Munch. She is the beloved grandmother of Shannon, Tiffany, Alicia and Andrew Munch, and the great-grandmother of Kyle Steger, Mason Weber, and Nova Rose Munch. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Retha was predeceased by infant baby daughter, Deborah E. Munch, three sisters: Beverly Rehberg, Phyllis Guilmette and Lonnie Stevens, along with brother-in-laws Howard Franklin, Max Stevens, and Herbert Munch. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Silver Creek, NY since 1968, and she served as secretary in the church office for several years. Her incredible spirit, energy and will to live carried her through many serious health issues in recent years. Retha spent many enjoyable winters with her family and friends at her winter home in LaBelle, Florida (near Fort Myers). She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Don Munch, and sons John, Timothy, Thomas, and Don Munch Jr., three sisters, Cheryl Franklin, Brenda (Brad) Wood, and Barbara (Ron) Ross, along with brother-in-law William Munch. She is the beloved grandmother of Shannon, Tiffany, Alicia and Andrew Munch, and the great-grandmother of Kyle Steger, Mason Weber, and Nova Rose Munch. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Retha was predeceased by infant baby daughter, Deborah E. Munch, three sisters: Beverly Rehberg, Phyllis Guilmette and Lonnie Stevens, along with brother-in-laws Howard Franklin, Max Stevens, and Herbert Munch. Family and friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Avenue Silver Creek, NY on Tuesday, October 25th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 26th at 11AM at the First United Presbyterian Church at 35 Park Place in Silver Creek. Everyone please assemble at the church. Interment will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery, Silver Creek, NY.
