Obituary of Maureen E. Irvin

Maureen E. Irvin, 77, of Silver Creek, NY, passed away Monday October 3, 2016 at her daughter Colleen’s residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 15, 1939 the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Reardon) Courtney. Maureen graduated from Mount Mercy Academy (1957), the University of Rochester School of Radiology (1959) and Trocaire College (1974) where she completed her registered nursing degree. She married the love of her life Michael F. Irvin on June 17, 1961 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel R.C. Church in Silver Creek. She worked for the TLC Health Network, Brooks Memorial Hospital, Gowanda Institute, WCA Home, Quality Care Nursing, and Gowanda Nursing Home as a Nursing Director. Maureen was a member of numerous community organizations the Silver Creek Fire Dept, where she was the first woman member, EMT and past president of the Silver Creek Emergency Squad , the Tri-County Country Club, Our Lady of Mt Carmel R.C. Church , served as a Eucharistic Minister, Sunset Drifters snowmobile club, recipient of the Nurse of Hope Award from the American Cancer Society. She also volunteered at many local organizations. Maureen’s true love was her family. She taught us to love all, forgive always, and continue to smile through life. Her life was always reflected through her love for others, her contagious laughter, and her beautiful smile. She is survived by a daughter, Colleen ( Jeffrey) Griewisch, two sons, Kevin and Timothy Irvin all of Silver Creek, six grandchildren, Maggie, Kattie, Courtney, and Cody Irvin, Brandyn ( Brianna) Griewisch , Nathan (Audrey) Griewisch, , three great grandchildren, Bella Irvin, Bayley and Brantley Griewisch, sister Carol Cooney of Davenport, Fla. and a sister-in-law Molly (George) Peter of North Tonawanda, NY. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 50years Michael F. Irvin , a brother , Jack Courtney, In Laws, Richard and Elizabeth Irvin, and a daughter-in-law, Tracey Irvin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10a.m. Friday, October 7, 2016 from Our Lady of Mt Carmel R.C. Church, 165 Central Ave., Silver Creek. There will be no calling hours, everyone please assemble at the church.
