Obituary of Betty A. Mohart

Betty E. Mohart, 92, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2015 at Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville, NY. She was a longtime resident of Silver Creek, NY until 2009. She was born June 27, 1923 in Alden, NY, the daughter of the late Arthur and Emma (Willard) Eastwood. Betty was a 1941 graduate of Alden High School. She graduated from Syracuse University in April 1945 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education. She taught at Silver Creek High School for two years before returning to Syracuse University, where in June 1948, she graduated with a Master of Science degree in Business Education. She then taught at Olean, NY High School and later at Fredonia, NY BOCES. She retired in June 1984. Article Photos Betty was a longtime member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Silver Creek. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crossword puzzles, genealogy and spending time with family and friends. She will long be remembered for her gentle ways and beautiful, warm smile. Survivors include her three children, Greg (Linda) Mohart of Orange Park, FL, Laurie (Rick) Portine of Fayetteville, NY and Doug (Sue) Mohart of Wallkill, NY; one brother, Alan Eastwood; two sisters, Jean (Jim) Schneider and Doris (late Bruce) Brade; five grandchildren, Alison, Emily, David, Austin and Brady; four great-grandchildren, Sofia, Frankie, Amelia and Alex; and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Milton L. Mohart, whom she married July 2, 1949; three brothers, Willard Eastwood, Arthur Eastwood and Lester Eastwood; and one sister, Irene Offhaus. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016, at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY. Burial to follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.
