Obituary of John Paul Phillips
John Paul Phillips, 54, of Irving, NY, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo, NY, surrounded by his family.
John was born in Pekin, IL, on November 15, 1960, the son of the late Calvin and Annette (King) Phillips. He graduated from Silver Creek Central School in 1978 and served in the U.S. Marines as a Combat Engineer from Dec 4, 1981 to Dec. 3, 1984.
He is survived by a son Calvin Phillips of Jacksonville, N.C., two daughters, Cassandra Phillips of Louisville, KY, and Jenna Phillips of Dunkirk, NY, three sisters, Beulah (Jim) Anisko of Lorida, Fla., Anna (Roy) England of E. Peoria, IL, and Roberta (Bob) Deet of San Jose, IL, two brothers, James Phillips of Irving, NY, and Bruce (Wilma) Phillips of Pekin, IL, two grandsons, Aiden and Tyrian Phillips, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Phillips, also survived by the mother of his children, Kimberly Rybij of Louisville, KY. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Elizabeth Russell, a brother Terry Phillips and a nephew Dana Russell.
John worked as a heavy machinery rigger for Laughlin Construction Co. in Buffalo, NY, and also other construction companies in the area. He belonged to the Good Shepherd Church in Irving, NY, and was a former member of the Marine Corps League in Sheridan, NY.
John was very proud of his heritage and his military career. He was a member of the Heron Clan and spent most of his time on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Johnny Cash. His brothers (friends) affectionately referred to him as "Johnny No Cash." He also liked to travel and play horseshoes.
Family and friends may call at the HoleParker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY, today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., where a Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 11a.m. Interment will be in the Good Shephard Cemetery.
