Obituary of Dolores S. Opeil

Dolores S. Opeil, 87, of Sheridan, NY, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015 at the Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, NY surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Buffalo, NY on August 07, 1927, the daughter of the late John and Eleanor (Kaczynska) Kremblas. Dolores married Philip J. Opeil on June 25, 1949 in Buffalo, NY. They moved to a grape farm in Sheridan, NY and started their family. Unfortunately, Philip died at a young age and Dolores was left to raise five kids by herself. She was known for being very independent, a hard worker and a resilient person. She left the farm and went to work at St. Columban's as a housekeeper, retiring at age 70. Article Photos Dolores was a member of Silver Creek's Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, and the Grape Belt Seniors of Fredonia. An avid sports fan, she attended and supported her children's sporting events. The highlight of the year was to vacation in Scranton, Pa., with Philip's family. Survivors include two sons, James (Gloria) Opeil of Sheridan, NY, and Philip (Michelle) Opeil of Forestville, NY; three daughters, Patricia (Stephen) Szczerbacki of Sheridan, NY, Barbara (James) Garland of Fredonia, NY and Diana (Paul) Rozewicz of Silver Creek, NY; four grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Rozewicz, Brianna Garland and Morgan Opeil; and a great-granddaughter, Allie Rozewicz. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by five brothers, Frank, Walter, Joseph, Edward and John Kremblas. There will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church in Silver Creek, NY at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
