Obituary of Gertrude E. Elias

Gertrude E. Elias, 95, of Cheektowaga, NY, and formerly of Forestville, NY, passed away Sunday (Dec. 28, 2014) at Absolut Care of Eden. She was born Sept. 20, 1919 in Forestville, NY, the daughter of the late Albert and Esther (Gens) Belote. Gertrude and her husband Moxie Elias were the owners and operators of Dailey and Elias Brothers General Store in Smith Mills, NY. Later in life, she was employed by Chautauqua County Office of the Aging. Her memberships included Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, Silver Creek, NY, Forestville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Forestville, and Silver Creek Senior Citizens Clubs, where she was very active. Survivors include her loving daughter and care giver, Maxine E. (James) Steiner of Cheektowaga, NY; three grandchildren, Vito (Maria) Borrello, Deborah (Paul) Schaub and Christopher Borrello; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Moxie Elias; a brother, Harold Belote; and a sister, Alene Smith. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Clinton Street at Union Road, West Seneca, NY, at 10 a.m. Private family burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Silver Creek, NY. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
