Obituary of Iva D. Dattilo
Iva D. Dattilo, 90, of Silver Creek, NY, passed away Saturday morning, October 11, 2014 at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk, NY.
Iva was born in Silver Creek on April 4, 1924, the daughter of the late Vito and Nancy (Alfieri) Botticello.
A lifelong area resident, she married George C. Dattilo on June 2, 1945 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Silver Creek. Together they raised two daughters, Sandra (Edward) Buckley of Silver Creek and Sharon (Anthony) Robinson of Yorktown Heights, NY. In addition to her children, she is survived by four grandchildren, Alan (Kate) Buckley and Krystin Buckley, Ashley and Anthony Robinson, whom she loved dearly. Article Photos
Iva worked for LIS Aircraft Products in Silver Creek as a secretary during World War II. When they relocated to Ohio, she got a job as a secretary at the Precision Company in Silver Creek. She also worked as assistant cook at Mt. Carmel Cafeteria until the school closed. She then worked for various restaurants in Irving, NY, including 11 years for Aunt Millie's, where she was known for her tripe and Italian foods.
Iva was a foster mother for Catholic Charities in Dunkirk and a member of the Rosary Altar Society. She was also an officer of the Mother's Club and a Girl Scout leader, both for Mt. Carmel School. Her girl scouts received the Marian Award for the first time at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Buffalo. She also was active as a member of the Mt. Carmel Social Club. Her heart and home were always open to family and friends.
Besides her parents and her husband of 29 years, George C. Dattilo, Iva was predeceased by seven brothers: Samuel, Joseph, Anthony, Angelo, Michael, George and Sebastian Bot-ticello; and three sisters: Marian Caruso, Josephine Bova and Caroline Rathburn.
Prayers will be held Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. from the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave., Silver Creek, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Silver Creek. Interment will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Friends will be received Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014 from 3-7 p.m.
