Obituary of Richard R. Smith

Obituary Richard R. Smith, 76, of Silver Creek, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 20,2021 at his home with his family at his side. He was born on November 25,1944 in Buffalo, NY the son of the late Robert and Dorothy (Willett) Smith. Richard married Grace Ann Rieg on February 18, 1967 in Depew, NY. Survivors include his wife of 54 years Grace Ann Smith; two daughters, Lisa (Brian Impellizzieri) and Mary (Thomas) Hayes both of Syracuse, NY; a son, Christopher (Marsha) Smith of Ocala, Fla; seven grandchildren, Lauren (Dillon Canorro) and Zachary Blok, Sophia and Noah Hayes, Nick Robarge, Tyler (Amber)Chappell and Devon (Brittany) Smith; a sister, Norma (Dale) Hindmarsh of Syracuse. Richard was preceded in death by a son, David Smith. Richard worked in the insurance business for a number of years. He retired from Doan Insurance Co, Depew, NY as an insurance adjuster. He was a proud patriot having served in the U. S. Marines during the Vietnam War. He received a Certificate of Special Recognition for his participation in the Vietnam War, presented by Martha McSally, 2nd Congressional District in Arizona. Richard was a diehard Buffalo Bills fan, enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son Chris. They were fondly referred to as “Fishin Fools”. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10a.m. Friday, June 18, 2021 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC Church, 165 Central Ave. Silver Creek. Committal will be at Mt Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rich’s memory may be sent to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church or Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care 20 W. Fairmount Ave. Lakewood, NY14750.
