Obituary of Roy L Russell

Roy L. Russell, 66, of Silver Creek, NY passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening, January 8, 2023 at
Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.


He was born on March 30, 1956 in Silver Creek, NY the son of Ray R. and Anna E. (Abbott) Russell. On
October 30, 1976 he married the former Elizabeth S. Phillips in Silver Creek she preceded him in death
on August 17, 2006, after 29 years of marriage.


Roy is survived by his mother Anna Russell of Silver Creek; three cherished granddaughters, Destiny L.
(Franklin Gelster IV) Russell, Tina Schroeder and Karli D.L. (Stanley Schara) Russell; three great-
grandchildren, Adelyn and Elaina Gelster and Carlisle Schara (joining us in March); four siblings, Rose
Ann (Bill) Russell-Fitzner of Catawba, NC, Robin Woodcock of Ripley, NY, Rae (late Ross) Worden and
Roger S. Russell both of Silver Creek; also survived by many special nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his father Ray R. Russell, his wife, Elizabeth S. (Phillips) Russell and two
sons, Dana L. and David R. Russell.


Roy graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1974. He was an accomplished athlete who excelled in
football, basketball and wrestling. In his senior year he earned the title of NY State Wrestling Champion
at 170 lbs. His trophy and picture are displayed currently at Silver Creek High School.


Roy served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked as an executive manager for Cliffstar (Refresco
Beverages) in Dunkirk, NY with over 15 years of service. He also worked as an executive manager for Welch's

in Erie, PA where he retired from.  After retirement he was very involved in real
estate investing and the stock market, he enjoyed checking his investments on a daily basis.


Roy was the prototypical outdoorsman he loved snowmobiling and was an active member of the Cherry
Creek Sno-Goers, riding motorcycles, running, hiking, swimming and kayaking. He also was a diehard fan
of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. Most of all he cherished his family especially his grandchildren and will be
greatly missed by his family and friends.


Friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave. Silver Creek, NY on Thursday,
January 12, 2023 from 4-7 PM, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 10
AM. Interment will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery.

All are welcome to gather at the Firehouse On The Lake to Celebrate Roy's life immediately following services
