Obituary of Josephine N Wilkosz

Josephine N. “Jo” Wilkosz, 102, of Sheridan, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at St. Columban’s   on the Lake Retirement Home in Silver Creek, NY with her beloved family at her side.

She was born in Arkwright, NY on January 9, 1921 the daughter of the late Paul and Sophie (Ziemska) Nocek. She married the love her life Edward F. Wilkosz on November 20, 1941 in Dunkirk, NY, he preceded her in death on October 19, 1992, after 50 years of marriage.

Jo is survived by three children, Carol (Michael) Przybycien of Sheridan, NY, Barbara (Peter) Moldenhauer of Fredonia, NY and Daniel (Barbara) Wilkosz of Lewiston, NY; twelve cherished grandchildren, Michael ,Steven (Karen), John (Alice) and Sharon  Przybycien, Christine (Joseph) Carucci, Heidi (Lane Milliman)Moldenhauer, Thomas and James (Katie) Guziec, Katie(Jason) Tomkiewicz, Daniel C.(Amanda Friskey) Wilkosz, Jessica  (David)Anderson and Rebekah (Brandon) Marten; twenty-one  great-grandchildren and one great –great grandchild; a brother, Joseph (late Barbara) Nocek of Sheridan, NY, a son-in-law, Steven Lesch of Dunkirk, NY; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jo was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Lesch, a sister, Helen Yonker, three brothers, Leo, Edward and Louis Nocek, two grandsons, Peter Moldenhauer II and Kevin Guziec.

Jo graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1939. She worked as a seamstress for Van Raalte in Dunkirk, NY, she was a clerk for Luces Maple Crest Dairy in Sheridan, NY for a number of years. Her favorite occupation was working in the grape fields on her farm with her husband Edward.

Her memberships included the former St. John Bosco RC Church in Sheridan, Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC Church, Sheridan Happy Seniors, Home Bureau where she enjoyed doing arts and crafts and Fredonia Elementary School PTA. Jo was well known for her feistiness and for being spunky.

 

Relatives and friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave. Silver Creek on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 9:00 to 11AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC Church, 165 Central Ave. Silver Creek at 11 AM. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Sheridan.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Jo’s honor to St. Columban’s on the Lake Retirement Home, 2546 Lake Ave. Silver Creek, NY 14136 or Our Lady of Mt Carmel, 165 Central Ave. Silver Creek.
