Roger L. Hohenstein, 80, of Sheridan, NY passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, NY.
He was born in Buffalo, NY on November 15, 1944, the son of the late William and Rachel (nee Cook) Hohenstein. He married Romaine Greenough on May 29, 1971 in Sheridan, NY.
Surviving are his wife; two loving children Marissa (Jeff) Metzger of Silver Creek, NY and Eric (Nicole) Hohenstein of Fredonia, NY; a grandson, Gabriel Metzger; a sister, Shirley (late Dan) Hickling of Fredonia, NY; a sister-in-law, Janet (nee Tyler)Hohenstein of Dayton, OH; he is also survived by many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Hohenstein.
Roger graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1962 and from Marietta College with a B.A. History in 1966. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and retired from Smith’s True Value in Irving, NY as a lumber and building manager with 30 years of service.
Roger was life member of the Sheridan Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a former president and secretary. He also was a treasurer of the Board of Fire Commissioner’s in Sheridan, NY, managing the fiscal and budgetary needs of his fire district. He was a social member of the Sheridan Memorial VFW Post # 6390 and a trustee of the Sheridan Cemetery.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling and the Buffalo Bills.
Friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave. Silver Creek, NY on Friday, November 22, 2024 from 4-7 PM, where a funeral service be held on Saturday November 23, 2024 at 11 AM. Interment will be private in the Sheridan Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions in Roger’s memory may be made to the Sheridan Volunteer Fire Department or the Sheridan VFW Post # 6390.
