Obituary Karen K. O’Keefe Tesselaar, 65, of Silver Creek, NY died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at her residence with her loving husband at her side. She was born on June 22, 1952 In Olean, NY the daughter of Harold and Patricia (Gazdik) O’Keefe. Karen was a graduate of Olean High School, Class of 1970. She continued her studies at SUNY Fredonia earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Karen’s career in Corporate Quality spanned over 43 years with Welch Foods, Cliffstar and Lactalis American Group. Karen cherished her 40 plus years with the love of her life, Pieter. They shared a love of traveling, which included the Caribbean, Hawaii, the entire continental United States and the highlight, her husband’s homeland, The Netherlands. Summers were spent at Black Lake with Pieter’s family from Canada and hold many special memories. Karen was an avid reader, a water and sun lover, and enjoyed her gardens of spring flowers. Karen was the original K1 and is survived by her mother and six siblings. They are Kimberly (Robert)Cerrie, Kelly (Barbara) O’Keefe, Kerry ( Teresa) O’Keefe, Kathryn (Timothy) Galbato, Killeen (Michael) Higgins, Kirsten (Kurt) Benham, sisters-in-laws, Cheryl O’Keefe, Janet (Mel) Thompson, Margaret (David) Nagasar, Helena (Steve) Nickles and her brother-in law, John (Holly) Tesselaar. She took great pride in her title of “Aunt” and the special relationships she shared with numerous nieces and nephews. They are Kimberly (Robert)Cerrie, Kelly (Barbara) O’Keefe, Kerry ( Teresa) O’Keefe, Kathryn (Timothy) Galbato, Killeen (Michael) Higgins, Kirsten (Kurt) Benham, sisters-in-laws, Cheryl O’Keefe, Janet (Mel) Thompson, Margaret (David) Nagasar, Helena (Steve) Nickles and her brother-in law, John (Holly) Tesselaar. She took great pride in her title of “Aunt” and the special relationships she shared with numerous nieces and nephews. Karen was predeceased by her father Harold O’Keefe, a brother Kevin O’Keefe, sister –in-law, Wilhelmina deVries , brother-in-law Fred Tesselaar and many aunts and uncles whom she held dear. Per Karen’s wishes, there will be no visitation observed. A memorial mass will be held on April 14, 2018 at the Basilica of St. Mary of Angels, 202 S. Union St, Olean, NY, time to be announced.
