Obituary of Joan B. Berner
Joan B Berner (Hathaway), age 78, entered into eternal rest on November 21st. Daughter of the late Eleanor and Lawrence Hathaway, wife of 54 years to Richard Berner, mother of Kimberly (Michael) Scherrer, Kristy Berner (Daniel Gross), Katy Berner-Wallen (John Wallen) and Grandmother to Noah and Riley Gross.
Joan spent her career in North Tonawanda Schools where she was a beloved coach and PE teacher, whose expectations for her players was matched only with her desire to help them succeed. In her retirement, she was an active volunteer at the Silver Creek Food Pantry and served on the Town of Hanover Planning Board for 22 years.
If you knew Joan, you knew that she was a force of nature who loved to make people laugh and found the best in people. No one was a stranger when Joan was around; she talked to everyone and gave freely of herself to help others. Joan’s favorite ways to spend her time was with her family on the lake and visiting with her friends at the Silver Creek Firemen’s Club.
A private ceremony and burial were held on November 28th at the Hole Parker Funeral Home and Glenwood Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please share online condolences at www.holeparkerfc.com
